February 5, 2011 - Family Safari

To celebrate Noah's first two weeks, we went on a small safari today in the Nairobi National Park. Kristoffer and I hadn't been in a couple of years and Farmor and Hans really wanted to go with Grace, who did enjoy it a lot! Grace was 6 weeks old when she went on her frst game drive in the Masai Mara, so Noah trumped her by going at 2 weeks! We had never seen lions in Nairobi, although my parents had, and so we were very excited with today's game: a troop of baboons upon entering the park, a big giraffe standing in the middle of the road about 3 minutes into our drive, many zebra and giraffes and different antelope throughout our trip, and 3 male lions spotted hunting for something to eat! Wow! We also saw two turtles and a crocodile, but no rhino today because a certain little girl was ready to go. Overall it was a great safari - and Grace had her first driving lesson!

An early morning giraffe...
One of the three lions we saw passing just in front of our car...
Hello Mr. Impala...
Hans made a new friend on our walk to see the crocodile...
Monkeying around...
All those great animals, and this was pretty much Noah's reaction to all of them...
Here comes trouble...

In other family news, yesterday Noah went for a checkup at the doctor and had gained half a pound in his second week (so at 3.7 kg/8.14 lbs he was almost back to his birth-weight). Good boy! He had a hearing test and passed with flying colors, and he also survived another vaccination with only a few seconds of crying. Last night was also Noah's first family lego night. He remains a very sweet baby and we are (almost) all enjoying him a lot. Grace alternates between being very sweet to Noah and a little bit naughty around Mama and Far (thankfully, not with Farmor and Hans). I think for her age she is doing really well, although it makes me sad to see her stressed and unhappy at all. She did hit Noah yesterday when she came from school, but tonight when she went to bed she gave him the sweetest, most loving hug. We continue to be a work in progress, but are generally quite happy with our family!

Building a gate for Grace to go under...
Even Farmor tried it out!
Noah looks a little bit like his sister when she was a newborn here...
as his Farmor said last night, he is simply irresistable!
