December 31, 2014 - Happy New Year/Godt Nytår

While it was not a great year for me in terms of blogging, but our family did have a lot going on in 2014.  Our biggest change was the arrival of Aya Karen!  Clearly the year's highlight and a wonderful gift to all of us.  But since then we've also been pretty tired and hope that in the new year she will let us a get a little more sleep.  In 2015, I think our biggest wish would be to relocate our family out of Africa and back to either the US or Denmark.  No - that is not an announcement of any kind - just a wish for the new year.  We'll certainly try to make it happen any way.  After 7 years in East Africa, I think we're finally ready to try something new!

My resolutions for 2015 are to do MORE:  blogging, sleeping, exercising, and problem solving.  I would like to be more patient, more productive, more kind, and more "in the moment".

My resolutions are also to do LESS:  complaining, time-wasting, and internet-ing. I would like to be less tired (ok, maybe already mentioned that one), less far away from our families, less whiny, and less distracted.

Everyone else is sleeping right now or getting ready for tonight's new year festivities.  But Aya is with me now and she says: gee gee gee gee...mamamamamam...aslkdhsgkjhalk...ack ack ack.

We are counting the many blessings of this year and looking forward to what next year has in store for us.  Here's hoping you're doing the same.

With love and good cheer...Happy New Year!

December 30, 2014 (belated) - More Merry

Some more sort of random, but lovely, pictures of our post-Christmas days. I should say that most of these pictures come from Hans because we just haven't been taking any!  (terrible, our poor 3rd child!) Kristoffer and I actually took Aya to Copenhagen for a couple of days without the big kids...they stayed home with Farmor and Hans to have a lot of fun and we got to visit some friends we really missed.  No pictures to prove it, but we had a great time seeing Malene & Casper from Nairobi (with Silas, Julius and new baby Marie), Anne & Soren (with new baby Jonathon), and Morten & Linette.  Thank goodness for dear friends - even if you haven't seen them in years!

(frost angels?)
 Aya loves Farmor's Giraffe!

We will miss these Danish days when we head back to Dar on Saturday.  We might not miss our colds/coughs...but if they would just go away, we could find out!

December 25, 2014 (belated) - Merry Christmas / Glædelig Jul

Here we go - a VERY big Christmas blog!

Leading up to to Christmas with visited and had visits from different cousins and it was so much fun!

Lego time for the kid cousins...
Lego time for the big cousins...
 Pakke leg (present game!)

Baking and playing and decorating and cuddling...

And then for Christmas Eve/ much fun, so much food, so much laughter, so many presents!  It was just SO MUCH!
Aya's First Christmas!

A new favorite picture of these two...

(this was the best one we could get of all 5!)

Dancing around the beautiful Christmas tree.

 Aya loved it! Such a first-timer :)

Grace's gift highlight - her Toothless Dragon from Farmor and Hans!

Noah's gift highlight - his Darth Vader Costume from Uncle Mark, Aunt Carrie, Matthew and Nathan!

Aya's gift highlight - her Aya puzzle from Mama and Far!

 Other favorites...

And Farmor and Hans loved the pictures of the 9 of us (Rasmus' family and Kristoffer's family) and of the 5 kids that we had taken before Christmas.
Before going to bed - at like 11 pm! - Noah wanted an evening snack.  Eating duck!  That was a first!
The stockings were hung on the coat rack with care...(this was actually an after shot)...
And Grace left a thoughtful note for Santa.
(translation:  Dear Santa - We wish you a Merry Christmas. Here are your cookies and carrots for your reindeer. Love Grace Noah Aya)
In the morning Santa had left a few presents for the of all Benny's Spaceship from the Lego Movie!
(it was unclear whether this gift was for Far or the big they share...)
Christmas morning, happy baby!
At a very festive Christmas lunch, I was encouraged to drink traditional Danish schnapps.
After all these years, still not my favorite...
And Kristoffer ate fish!
But mostly drank (and drank) a lot of Schnapps.  It was really a crazy day!
Even Aya was silly at the table :)
Happy Guys!
Post-Christmas living room.  Looks like yours did too, right?

What a wonderful Christmas it was! Especially for Aya's First Christmas.  Thank you to Farmor and Hans for making it possible.  Merry merry to all!
